CD Intro Sketch

Welcome to the house of Fun. . .  here to tell you some tales of the ordinary and make some music for your pleasure. When you listen to this album, you can find summer, winter, spring, and fall--needless to say, well seasoned.

You may find things in it that even we did not know were there. Just listen and relax as the bass line drops and the rhythm creeps in you before you know it. You're a Jedi.

Where you were before, well you could be making that up. Where you're going -- you don't really know. You are are making your way eyes-open-blind.

Don't get stuck on the dark.

Our new lyric comes from Jamica Kincaid. Please visit her biographical page and her wiki to see what you can learn about her.

For today, you should be getting your vocal chords tuned and your attitude ready for performing "Girl" into recording. The elements we will be looking for are mood, tone, volume, and emphasis through your reading. Your voice should convey what you think the narrator's voice is trying to share about her feelings and memories.

Can you find evidence to support your take on how the narrator feels in the poem?

Make sure that you do a blog entry describing your reasoning and how you tried to take on the role of the narrator, but made it your own.

  • When you reflect on this poem, what was it about?
  • How would you have wrote it?
  • What would your mother have said?
  • How would she have said it?
  • How would you write this for your daughter or son?

Your work is to read this poem into garageband and then blog about these questions, then we will read this into garageband and mix the reading with your responses.

After you have thought about the poem, click on the picture of Jamaica Kincaid

Congratulations, this is cut one on your cd.
